Carillion-Amey - Guide to SFA

Click here to view SFA GUIDE

Introducing the updated SFA Guide to our customers and our stakeholders

CarillionAmey have made some necessary changes to their Guide to Living in Service Family Accommodation and the updated guide can now be found on their website. The SFA Guide needed a fresh look and some of the information was out of date. They also wanted to introduce the details of their new digital communication channels into the guide as well to ensure that everyone moving in knew that they could talk to CarillionAmey in a variety of ways, at their own convenience.

Customers have started to move towards digital in a major way. In order to keep up with the movement, Accommodation Officers will now be directing customers, who have recently moved in to Service Family Accommodation, to the CarillionAmey website to read through the SFA Guide rather than have a printed copy in their Move-In pack.

There are plenty of benefits that come with this change, including easy and quick to access information. The guide also has a whole new ‘contact us’ page with hyperlinks, directing customers straight to the page they need. It will also be easier to update when CarillionAmey need to make any changes, customers will always be seeing the most up to date version, rather than having to update and then reprint, we can simply update and then upload on to the website.

Boarding Schools Fair 2018

Boarding Schools Fair 2018 – Defence Academy, Shrivenham

A Boarding Schools Fair (BSF) will be held at the Joint Services Command and Staff College, Defence Academy, Shrivenham on Tuesday 20 February 2018 from 1500 to 1800 hrs.
The aim of the BSF is to provide armed forces personnel and their families an opportunity to consult with schools from across the UK, who may be considering educating their children at a boarding school or independent day school.

This is the 15th year that the event has been held at the Defence Academy and over 70 schools will be represented, including St Mary’s School, Bexhill. St Mary’s School provides specialist education, therapy & care for young people (7-19) with speech, language and communication needs.
This is the perfect opportunity to speak to teachers and children from the schools but without the logistic difficulties of travelling many miles to do so. Some of the schools will bring pupils with them, which will allow your children to talk to those already at boarding or day school about their experiences. For further information and to register your attendance please visit the Defence Academy Website (www).

Help for Heroes - Support to Forces Families

ARMED FORCES FAMILIES SUFFERING IN SILENCE ON BLUE MONDAY

One in four admit their well-being is suffering yet stigma is stopping many from speaking up.

In the run up to Blue Monday, Armed Forces Veterans’ charity Help for Heroes is releasing new research which reveals that one in four (23 per cent) partners or family members of an Armed Services Veteran or Service Person state that their own wellbeing and mental health has been directly affected as a result of their family member’s situation. Worryingly, they are suffering in silence as one in eight (16 per cent) said they would try to cope with any issues alone, with only 5 per cent saying they would seek help from a mental health professional.

It’s the stigma of speaking up as an Armed Services partner or family member that is the main reason many of those surveyed have not spoken up. Worryingly, reasons cited in the research include 39 per cent of those who would try to cope alone stating that they “don’t feel [they] have the right to seek help”, almost half (43 per cent) say they “need to be the strong one”, and 16 per cent admitting they would be “afraid of appearing weak”. One in three would turn to a family member, friend or other veteran wives/families before approaching their GP or a medical professional.

Depression and anxiety are just two mental health conditions that affect almost one in three (30 per cent) of affected family members of serving and ex-Personnel.

Carillion - Notice

Update on Carillion: Defence services to continue uninterrupted

15/01/2018

Today's announcement about the financial situation of Carillion has no direct impact on services provided directly to those working for Defence, their families and the continuing work of the department.

Housing will continue to be serviced, catering facilities run, and buildings and offices cleaned, as well as other services the company is involved in providing. There are extensive contingency plans for dealing with issues such as this to make sure that services to personnel and their families continue to be provided to a high standard. This remains a top priority for the department. The facilities management contracts that provide catering, cleaning and maintenance services to Defence are all joint ventures involving partners in addition to Carillion. Contractually, these partners are required to continue to deliver services if one of the other partners fails. The department remains committed to these joint ventures, and has been working with relevant partners to ensure a smooth continuation of the provision of these services. The MOD is confident in the robustness of these arrangements and the strength of the supporting suppliers. Where Carillion is the sole provider of services, for example for construction projects, alternative arrangements are being put into place that will not affect Service personnel. All Service personnel should continue to use pre-existing processes to report problems, including the use of the 24/7 helpdesk telephone numbers.
